Costa Calida Festivals
March: Holy Week celebrations - Murcia
city - Salzillo sculptures are paraded through the town
of Murcia on men’s shoulders.
April: Fiestas de Primavera –
Murcia city - parade with horses and local costumes
of the Huerta with regional dances and music. There
is the battle of the flowers and dance and the ‘burial
of the sardine’ for good luck. After Easter Sunday
there is a fair of regional handicraft.
April/May: Murcia City
International Jazz Festival - this year from 5-7 May.
A free festival with music from 1pm in the Plaza de
Romea and evening sessions from 10pm in the Teatro Romea.
May 2-5: Fiestas de la Santisima Cruz
de Caravaca - Caravaca – a four day festival:
Day 1 – carnival parade and music.
Day 2 – groups of Moors and Christians and a
‘Race of Wine-carrying Horses’, and a
mock skirmish between the Moors and Christians.
Day 3 – solemn procession and another mock skirmish.
Day 4 – final skirmish and pilgrimage.
May/June: Three Cultures International
Festival – Murcia City – concerts and activities
centreing on Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
June/July: International Jazz Festival

July 16: ‘Romera en honor de
la Virgen del Carmen’ – San Pedro del Pinatra
– a pilgrim procession, regattas and concert and
fireworks in the evening.
